Hanen Book Nook

In conjunction with Sunrise School Division, Library Allard is offering a literacy program for school aged children and their families.

The Hanen Book Nook aims to enable parents to use daily interactions with their children to build the best possible language and literacy skills. The Book Nook program shares some well-loved children’s books and identifies ways parents can use them to promote their child’s literacy skills, which prepares them for later reading success.

Each Hanen Book Nook packet contains a picture book and a parent-friendly hand out that focuses on how to help your child develop and strengthen one of five key pre-literacy skills: sound awareness, print knowledge, vocabulary, story comprehension and conversation.

Once you learn the strategies, you can use them with any book you read to your child.

A list of the available packets at our library is here.
