In conjunction with Sunrise School Division, Library Allard is offering a literacy program for school aged children and their families at our library.
The Hanen Book Nook aims to enable parents to use daily interactions, with their children, to build the best possible language and literacy skills. The book Nook shares some of Hanen’s favorite children’s books and identifies ways parents can use them to promote their child’s emergent literacy skills, which prepares them for later reading success.
Each Hanen Book packet contains a storybook and a parent friendly hand out that focusses on how to help your child develop and strengthen ONE of five key pre-literacy skills: sound awareness, print knowledge, vocabulary, story comprehension and conversation.
Once you learn the strategies, you can use them with any book you read to your child.
Packets are available at Allard for each of the five skills.
