Community science
Bibliothèque Allard Regional Library is happy to be participating in a community air monitoring program — we love being community scientists! Thank you to the Manitoba Lung Association and Health Canada for providing us with a PurpleAir sensor, which we installed outside the library.
View air quality information for St. Georges and other locations
The air quality sensor measures real-time PM2.5 concentrations. PM2.5 refers to particulate matter in air that is smaller than 2.5 micrometers in diameter. These tiny airborne particles are emitted by vehicles, industry, forest fires and other sources. The air quality sensor transmits data about local PM2.5 concentrations to the real-time PurpleAir map.
View the PurpleAir map to see air quality health index information for a number of locations, including St. Georges.
When viewing the map, you will see colour-coded air quality health index (AQHI) numbers from 1 to 10 that indicate the level of immediate health risk associated with local air quality, with 1 indicating low risk and 10 indicating very high risk. For more information on the air quality health index and the health effects of air pollution, visit the Manitoba Lung Association’s Outdoor Air Quality Index page.
